Northern Pines Golf Club in Kalispell is one of northwestern Montana's premier courses, it consistently ranks as one of the top 10 in the state. The diverse layout is like playing two golf courses in one with a links-style front nine and more wooded and hilly back nine. You'll begin with a nine inspired by classic Scottish links golf courses, featuring subtle but tricky mounding and contours. Ribbons of native grasses edging along the fairways add to the links feel. The elevation changes get more dramatic on the back nine and you'll also find a greater number of towering pines looming above the fairway. Water isn't particularly prominent on the golf course but there are a few small hazards that come into play. North Pines' sister course -- Eagle Bend, in Bigfork -- is also a local favorite.
